Understand the very essence of God’s nature allows us to better understand how He exists and the basis of holiness, which is who He is.

God is Spirit.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24)

No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.” (John 1:18)

Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen” (I Timothy 6:16)

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.” (I Timothy 1:17)

The very nature of God is that He is spirit. This means He is without form, and yet He is personal and eternal, without any limitation that physical nature would create. He is not an impersonal force that acts without purpose or reason, like a statue or idol.

A spirit God is…

  • Invisible
  • Unlimited
  • Unconstrained
  • Eternal
  • Infinite
  • Indescribable

A spirit God can only be known through what he has revealed.

Creation “His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20)

Jesus That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life–the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us.“ (1 John 1:1,2)

Scripture 1Samuel 3:21, “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son” (Hebrews 1;1)
